US appreciates independent media in Pakistan
LAHORE The American Consul General Lahore is pleased to see a vibrant and independent media playing vanguard for sustained democracy and to create national unity in Pakistan.
“It is exciting to see an energetic, vibrant and independent media as essential to sustain democracy, is in place in Pakistan,” US Consul General Zachary Harkenrider said while speaking at the concluding ceremony of the training programme on electronic journalism arranged by Media Advocacy Center for the students of South Punjab here on Saturday.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid, Saarc Chamber of Commerce and Industries Vice Chairman Iftikhar Ali Malik, Lahore Press Club President Arshad Ansari, Tevta Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh, Akhuwat Chairman Amjad Saqib, and MAC Chairman were among other speaker on the occasion.
The US consul general also appreciated the contribution being made by media to the government efforts to eliminate extremism, for peace in society and developing national unity.
Mr Harkenrider also acknowledged the efforts of Pakistani government towards meeting the security challenges and hoped the civil society and media will go on contributing to the efforts for a strong and prosperous Pakistan.
