18 resource centres for women to be set up

KARACHI, June 04, 2005): The government has decided to establish nearly 18 district resource centres to train lady councillors. This was stated by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Women Development, Nilofer Bakhtiar, at the inauguration ceremony of the first District Resource Centre in Karachi on June 1. She also said that approximately Rs 1.9 million have been allocated for the setting up of each resource centre.

The adviser said that the after the successful launching of the United Nations W3P programme, the President has received appreciation from all over the world as the country’s women showed increased interest in that programme.

The purpose of the training programmes was to create maximum awareness among the lady councillors. After training the lady councillors would be able to guide the women of their respective areas who are unaware of their basic religious rights, enabling them to tackle the increasing problems faced by them in this ever-changing era.

For the development of the women and students, the city government has set up the City Library Complex at Nipa, she informed the gathering.
