16-year-old girl killed in the name of honour

LAHORE: Around four people were killed in different incidents across the provincial capital on Sunday.

In the first incident, a 16-year-old girl was clubbed to death by her uncle in the name of honour in the jurisdiction of Raiwind City police station. The victim was identified as Shumaila, a resident of Chamropur village. The victim’s uncle, Barkat, was suspicious of her character. On the day of the incident, Shumaila returned to her house at 12 am over which Barkat got furious and clubbed her to death with an iron rod. Later, the accused fled away. Shumaila was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced her dead. Raiwind City police has registered a case against Barkat.

In the second incident, a 70-year-old man was found dead near the limits of Defence-A police station. The victim, yet to be unidentified, was lying dead near Ghoray Stop. Police suspected that the deceased was a drug addict who died of excessive use of drugs. Body was shifted to a morgue. In another incident, a 60-year-old woman was strangulated by unknown persons within the jurisdiction of Shafiqabad police station. The deceased was identified as Umardaraz Bibi, a resident of Karim Park.

The victim’s son, Atiqur Rahman, returned home after having breakfast from a bazaar and discovered his mother lying dead. Shaifabad police after being informed reached the spot and removed the body to the city morgue for autopsy. A case was registered on the complaint of deceased’s son, Atiqur Rahman, against unidentified persons. A 28-year-old man was shot dead by two bike riders within the limits of Shahdara police station. The victim was identified as Alamgir, a resident of Mozang. The victim was passing through Begam Kot Area when two unidentified bike riders intercepted him and opened indiscriminate firing at him, resulting in his instant death.
