15,000 refused CNICs in Balochistan

QUETTA: The National Database and Registration Authority refused to issue computerised National Identity Cards to some 15,000 applicants from Balochistan in 2009-10.

“Of the 15,000 applications, 10,000 were filed by Afghan refugees living in Balochistan,” a Nadra official told Dawn on Tuesday.

The Afghans had applied for the proof registration card under a campaign launched by UNHCR and Nadra. They also applied for CNICs.

“After a thorough scrutiny of their documents it was proved that 10,000 Afghan refugees were trying to get Pakistani identity cards,” he said.

CNICs of over 5,000 Pakistanis have also been blocked since their documents were either incomplete or there was no authentic verification of their documents.
