‘Youth Theatre Festival 2011’ concludes with great charm
* Youth Affairs Minister Faisal Sabzwari stresses the need to boost such type of activities

KARACHI: The two-day ‘Youth Theatre Festival 2011’, organised by the Sindh Youth Affairs Department in collaboration with the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, concluded here on Thursday amid an award distribution ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest Sindh Youth Affairs Minister Faisal Sabzwari stressed the need to boost such type of activities. He hailed the performances of the participants and said that youth of the metropolis presented theatre acts in a beautiful manner that include acting, message and entertainment.
He also announced that programme of career counseling would be held at the government level within two weeks for the first time in the history of Pakistan. The minister further said that a scheme entitled ‘Youth Empowering Space’ had been initiated with an amount of Rs 60 million for the betterment of Pakistani youth.
He said that theatres and auditoriums were also being formed at the youth centers being constructed by the department across the province.
The minister said that the department was doing its level best to form a peaceful environment to facilitate the society.
President Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi Ahmed Shah presented a vote of thanks to the distinguished guests and participants. He said the art was passing through a revival in Pakistan. He said that several new theatres had been inaugurated in the metropolis.
Earlier selected participants from several educational institutes performed at the event.
Another significant segment was performance of the deaf and dump children belonging to the JF Academy. They performed on the tunes of a song having a patriotic theme that delivered the message of unity in a brilliant manner.
Later, the guest of honor presented prizes and distributed certificates among participants. The students of Indus Valley School won the first and second prizes, while the third prize went to a group of the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi. Winners were granted with Rs 10,000, 15,000 and 25,000 respectively.
Special awards for best direction, best production, best male actor and best female actress went to Younas Arshad, Arshad Hassan, Kamal and Maheen Baloch, respectively.
