‘Women Mela” held at Arts Council

Karachi: To mark the International Women’s Day, the Women Development Department organised a ‘women mela’ at the Arts Council on Wednesday, which was attended by people from all walks of life.

While young girls had their hands painted with henna, others were enthralled by the performance of the singers and entertainers belonging to rural areas. Meanwhile, a number of stalls selling handicrafts, clothes and accessories made by women from interior Sindh were being sold. Bhagat from Mithi, two people from interior Sindh, who were selling hand made bags, said that the carnival was a great platform to give recognition to the impoverished people.

A stall was also setup by the Working Women Organization where Musfira Jamal, General Secretary of the organization said that bed sheets made by women from the villages were being sold. Another organization known as the Zinnia Humanitarian Society working for special people, sold DVDs of performances by the disabled and blind people. Sumaira Zaheer, who had come with her friends to attend the mela said that such events should be held on regular basis to encourage women to come forward and showcase their talents to society.
