‘Social media playing major role in reshaping society’

KARACHI: Adviser to the Sindh chief minister, Sharmila Farooqui, has said that the social media is emerging like a revolution, enabling people to connect with each other around the world without any boundaries of language, caste, creed or distance.

This she said while speaking as chief guest at a three-day workshop on the social media for the media professionals held from October 6 to October 8 at the Arabian Sea Country Club on Saturday.

Fourteen media professionals, who are working in the conflict-zone of the country, participated in the workshop.

Farooqui said that the social media had brought the world closer and had also increased the individual-to-individual contacts, which helped in disseminating information within seconds. She said that in the present era of technology, the social media had become so important and an easier way to become a source of information as well as connectivity to get a good response from the people.

She said that the social media could be simply described as YOU, i.e. whatever you want you can share or post on your blogs or social websites like Facebook and Twitter and could get your own recognition and credibility. Sundus Rasheed was the trainer and Lala Hassan was the facilitator of the workshop.
