‘Saar’ Pashto TV channel launched

PESHAWAR, June 23 2005: To promote Pakhtoon culture all over the world Saar television network, 2nd Pashto television has been formally launched by Renowned Artist Jamal Shah.

The Saar television, would be 2nd Pushto channel after Khyber, was previously called Shamla, will cover 70 % entertainment and 30 % news and current affairs programs would broadcasted.

Addressing the press conference here at Peshawar Press Club he kept on saying that he had an ambition to launch a Pashto channel as being an artist, soul of the artist needs communication “Today my dream has been proved true to give a platform to Pakhtuns to project their culture rightly and highlight their economical and political problems” he said.

He said that Khyber television was an good strive for Pakhtuns but they have failed in keeping the rules and regulations of the Pakhtun culture. He said that there would be a check and balance system in that channel to securitize alien elements in the programmes that has been often seen in the Pashto programmes.

To a question, he said that he believes in ‘freedom with responsibility’ and it did not mean that the programmes would not focus on international issues.

Certainly they would broadcast English bulletin and Darri programmes but would not broadcast Urdu programmes and news as there are channels who are broadcasting standard Urdu programmes, he said.

To another question he said that the main headquarter of their channel would be Peshawar and offices would be opened in Quetta and Kabul.
